iPhone 8 Design
Design-wise, it looks very similar to iPhone 7 and iPhone 6S. standard iPhone design with bezels and a home button. The bezels might pose a problem for some people, after seeing what iPhone X looks like it might be a bit icky to look at the bezel. iPhone 8 comes with less color than before. only three colors available, silver, space gray and gold. I don’t know why Apple can’t release more colors for iPhone 8. the chassis is very sturdy with an aluminum alloy casing and a steel-reinforced glass. Apple claims that it’s the most durable glass in a smartphone. It’s very easy to leave fingerprint marks on the rear glass but you shouldn’t worry about how you handle the phone.
The home button is still there unlike iPhone X, the 3.5mm audio jack is gone though. The size and weight should feel very comfortable in your hands. Easily fit into your bag or pocket.
iPhone 8 Display
4.7in Retina HD and IPS display are the same as iPhone 7. It’s a bit behind to Android phones. I don’t know why Apple didn’t try to match the competitors. Still a great display with high brightness and contrast ratio. The colors are vivid and accurate. Complete with Apple’s True Tone, pictures and texts should look much better and cleaner. It’s easy to read in any ambient lighting conditions.
The best new feature that comes in iPhone 8 Specification is the fast wireless charging and it works with any Qi wireless charging pad. Apple claims that the fast charging will charge the phone up to 50% charging within only 30 minutes. The downside is that the phone only comes with a 1.821mAH battery. During the Expert Reviews video benchmark, the battery lasted only 9 hours and 35 minutes. That’s considered to be a low performance from a flagship phone. Even more disappointing to know that the iPhone 7 lasted 13 hours and 2 mins during the same test. And that’s achieved with a slightly larger battery at 1.960mAh.
iPhone 8 Performance
Performance shouldn’t be a problem at all. With A11 Bionic chip, one of the most powerful smartphone chips in the world. 6 cores divided into 2 low performance and four high-performance cores. It’s a big improvement from the A100 chip. 25% faster regular chip and 75% faster high-performance chip. In Geekbench 4 benchmark result, iPhone 8 scores the highest among other competitors. GFX benchmark for gaming is also the best. 60 fps on all popular games. The biggest problem is the RAM. Another weird decision by Apple to only give the iPhone 8 Specification 2GB of RAM. It’s really low compared to other Android phones. Multi-tasking might be a hindrance for iPhone 8 due to low RAM. Don’t open too many Google Chrome tabs with iPhone 8.
The camera is great. 12MP camera captures a great number of details and reproduces an accurate color tone across the image. The camera still works well even in low-light conditions. The front camera with 7MP should be good enough to take selfies. Don’t expect too much out of it though. Some other phones are better in this regard.
iPhone 8 Price
Overall iPhone 8 is meant to be overshadowed by iPhone X. Apple didn’t give this phone a chance to shine at all. It deserved better than this. Price is also a problem; iPhone 7 is $150 cheaper and still a great phone to buy. I find it difficult to spend $150 more on iPhone 8. At this point, it might be better to spend your money on an Android phone.
